the people who made the movie ' beneath the harvest sky ' showed up at one of the stores here in van buren, maine which is just across the st john river from st leonard , new brunswick canada ( their clocks are an hour faster ) the ladies who talked to them from the store were very charming as the acadian ladies usualy are and asked the producers a number of questions


after the movie was made one of the ladies' husbands was arrested for allegedly being a conduit for cocaine smuggled between texas and canada

the husband was a vietnam vet and got extra years from the judge because he refused to cooperate with police

of interest is that the acadians who live on both sides of the st john valley border are said to be from the loire valley in france where mayonaisse was invented and the people of the loire valley were famed for being smugglers between anjou and another province

but the border had been put in place here after the acadians settled the region before the aroostook border war of 1838-39 when martin van buren was president
